The landscape around Kärnänkoski in Viitasaari is very welcoming to visitors since the lower end is in a very valuable cultural landscape whilst the top is almost entirely in natural state. The shores of the rapids have been tidied which makes it easy for fishers to move about and fish. There are also a place for fire and a cooking shelter at the top of the rapids.
Kärnänkoski catch comprises mainly trout and grayling. The rapids provide both natural trout and grayling but their reproduction is also supported through fish plantations.
